Windsor Elvis Fan Club Fundraiser

Review by Wendy King

There could be no better way to mark the 32nd anniversary of the passing of Elvis Presley than in a room of Elvis fans enjoying the talents of two of the best tribute artists around.  That’s what we did August 15th in Windsor with Tim “E” Hendry and the Yes men along with special guest James Gibb.

It was hosted,  in part, by the Windsor Elvis Fan Club as a fundraiser to assist a local man in need of financial assistance for medical issues. The joint was jumpin’ from beginning to end.

James Gibb kicked off the show with a string of early Elvis hits including “ Baby, Let’s Play House”, “Lil’ Sister”, and “ Hound Dog”.  Backed by a live band including horns. There seemed to be a real electricity in the air as we remembered what it must’ve been like in the 50’s with Elvis blazing a trail across the south! Tim Hendry, fresh from his regular job on a Florida cruise ship, broke out the black leather and did a full ’68 comeback set.  After a quick intermission, Tim was back with a Vegas set which included all the favorites like “ Suspicious Minds”, “Polk Salad Annie” and “ How Great Thou Art”, not to mention some songs we never get to hear enough like “I  Just Can’t Help Believin’” and “ You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling”.   Another highlight of the night was Tim calling fan  Sandra Gold up on stage to do “ Lil’ Egypt”…..she is the Gitchee Gitchee queen!

It was especially touching when both James and Tim gave credit to the man who started it all and brought us altogether—Elvis Aaron Presley. Several standing ovations later, James and Tim came back on stage together for a rousing version of Viva Las Vegas.  Then, unlike Elvis, Tim gave in to give us an encore, leaving fans screaming, chanting, applauding and wanting even more.    I am hoping for a future “ Tim and Jim” tour. These two should go on the road together as a full and respectful representation of Elvis over three decades!  Great job, guys!
